Calvary Church in Orland Park will have a candlelight vigil at 5 p.m. Saturday to remember those who have died as a result of drug addiction.

The community is invited. The church, 16100 S. 104th Ave., expects about 200 people, including former addicts and parents of children who died of overdoses.

Kyle Dunn, of Orland Park, a member of the church who overcame his drug addiction, said five of his friends died from overdoses.

Dunn?s mother, Donna Dunn, saw an article in the SouthtownStar in April 2009 that listed Calvary Church as a place to get help for drug addiction, and Kyle Dunn, who became an addict at age 18, credits the church for his getting clean.

?I found things to live for, not getting high,? he said. ?When I was using, I felt like I was no good. My whole body seemed like it was one big failure after another. I felt hopeless. It?s one of those drugs that suck you in, it won?t let go. Today I?m clean. I found God.?

Drug overdose deaths have become increasingly common in the suburbs. There have been about two dozen drug overdose deaths in each of the past three years in Will County, up from five in 2000, according to the Will County coroner?s office.

Calvary Church will begin holding recovery services every Saturday, starting Jan. 14.

At Saturday?s vigil, names of those who have died as a result of drug addiction will be read. To have a name added to the list, email Pastor Ron Ovitt at Ron@calvaryop.org or contact him at (708) 429-2200.

Agencies that help treat drug addiction also will be on hand to provide information to the community.
